Kevin Smith, the geek-icon filmmaker who directed tonight’s episode of The Flash, teased during a conversation with ComicBook.com yesterday that fans who finally got their first glimpse of big bad Savitar last week will get a whole lot more tonight.
“For my ‘Killer Frost’ episode, in the cold open — pun intended — you’re going to see this virtuoso, beautiful sequence of where we left off in the last episode: Savitar appears for the first time and has Barry captive,” Smith said, praising the work of visual effects supervisor Armen Kevorkian. “Then you see what happens right after that, so essentially while Savitar is introduced at the end of 306, you get to see the full breadth of his powers at the top of my episode.”

During our conversation, Smith repeatedly praised Kevorkian, saying that the VFX contributions to The Flash are so important that Kevorkian and his team should probably be given as much credit as the directors themselves for crafting what audiences see week to week.
“The episode this time around was more complicated than ‘The Runaway Dinosaur,’” Smith told ComicBook.com about tonight’s installment. “I realized when we were making ‘Killer Frost’ that I had made an atypical episode of The Flash last time, inasmuch as there wasn’t a f–kton of action. There wasn’t a lot of running around or spectacle. All of it was kind of dialogue exchanges between characters…so it wasn’t a typical Flash episode. ‘Killer Frost,’ there’s effects galore in this episode.”
Smith also worked with Kevorkian on Supergirl, where he posted a Facebook video showing fans how Melissa Benoist flies.
You can check out the official synopsis for the episode below.

(Tom Cavanagh) have a heart to heart.”
