Alien: Covenant has come out of the wings to start generating a healthy buzz ahead of its release in summer 2017. A Fox preview event held last week resulted in overwhelmingly positive reactions from critics and fans, who called Ridley Scott’s second Alien prequel installment a proper return to form after Prometheus.

Of the few confirmed details we have about the film, one of the more interesting ones has been the revelation that Prometheus star Michael Fassbender is returning for Alien: Covenant not just the android David (one of the final survivors of the last film), but also as a new android character, Walter.

Speaking with Coming Soon, Fassbender shared some new details about Walter, saying, “I think Walter’s a real different kettle of fish. David was definitely a work-in-progress, somewhat of a prototype I suppose. The elements of him that were the human elements I think people found a little disturbing, so Walter’s more of a straightforward robot. Pretty logical, much more of a servant without the ego.”

Fans are already wondering (and/or anticipating) a showdown of some kind between David and Walter; after hearing Fassbender’s description of Walter, one wonders if David couldn’t try to manipulate or outright dominate/kill the newer model of android – possibly even impersonate him. David was one of the more interesting and ominous aspects of Prometheus – seeing him get an expanded villain role in Covenant would be fun.
