Fans agreed that there was no better place to gather and mourn the tragic and unexpected loss of rebel princess and general Carrie Fisher.

Even her co-star and long-time friend Mark Hamill tweeted out a photo of the impromptu star to millions of people on Twitter:

Covered with roses and, of course, a lightsaber the makeshift star prompted fans to ask why Carrie Fisher doesn’t have an official star, and if she can still get one.

According to Variety, she can under the following circumstances now that she has passed:

“Each year the Hollywood Walk of Fame awards stars posthumously. The rules state, though, that for her to receive a star there is a “five year waiting period after death” before any deceased person can be nominated.

In this case, Fisher’s family would still apply through the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, like any applicant, in one of the five designated categories โ€” film, television, radio, live theatre and music. If the deceased entertainer is selected, it’s up to the family to decide who pays the required $30,000 sponsorship fee. A selection committee decides on the group of recipients each year. “

Let’s hope, in this case, that Carrie Fisher gets nominated for the star she deserves.
