When it comes to superhero movies, Hollywood has hesitated to shine a spotlight on its heroines. Films like Catwoman and Supergirl were panned by audiences years ago, but Wonder Woman managed to shift the public’s opinion. The DC icon ripped into theaters this summer with a universally praised film, and Marvel Studios’ president is a big fan.

Recently, Kevin Feige spoke with Yahoo! Movies about his upcoming work within the MCU. The site dropped a question about Wonder Woman, and it was there Feige said he was excited about the heroine’s film.
“The success of Wonder Woman is awesome, and just puts to rest the fallacy that people don’t want to see female superheroes,” Feige explained.
“I’ve always been a fan of the character, and I thought what they did with the film was perfect,” the producer continued and even complimented the film’s World War I setting. “To see another period superhero film was awesome.”
In fact, it appears that Feige’s love for Wonder Woman was a wild one during his childhood. The producer admitted he used to play pretend and act as if he was the Themysciran warrior. “I remember pretending to deflect bullets off of my wrists and spinning around to get a costume on?” Feige revealed.
So far, Wonder Woman has proven itself to be one of DC Films’ most beloved features to date. The movie recently broke $300 million at the domestic box office, and Wonder Woman is on-track to beat out both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad in earnings as well. The fan response to Gal Gadot’s complex take on Diana Prince helped the film get hundreds of positive reviews prior to its release, and Wonder Woman has set up future DCEU features because of its success.
For now, the DCEU can take pride in knowing it has taken a major step forward in normalizing superheroines on film. Marvel Studios is set to roll out its own female-centric superhero movie in a couple years. The MCU will add Captain Marvel to its extensive lineup in 2019 with Brie Larson leading as Carol Danvers.
