The DC Extended Universe panel at Comic-Con 2017 brought some exciting new things fans are buzzing about – and one of the biggest reveals was that the DCEU Flash movie is going to be called Flashpoint.
It’s a title that invokes immediate association with one of the most fan-favorite DC Comics storylines of the last decade, while inspiring a lot of fun speculation about what the future of the DCEU may hold. However, there’s also the matter of the possible new connections this “Flashpoint” movie title reveals between the Flash’s DCEU solo film, and that very strange scene in Batman v Superman.

So let’s discuss: Is Batman v Superman‘s Flash Warning Connected to Flashpoint?
The Knightmare Warning
This warning is never really resolved in Batman v Superman‘s story, and as of now, there’s no real indication that it will be resolved in Justice League (though a possible big reveal could change things – more on that below).

Naturally, Fans have assumed that The Flash’s warning related to Superman, thereby justifying Batman’s campaign against the Man of Steel; however, there’s another possibility…
Self Policing
It could’ve been a trick of dialogue meant to throw fans of the trail: but what if The Flash’s warning to Batman was meant as a self-policing measure?
A lot of the “Flashpoint” storyline (whether on The CW’s Flash TV series or in The DC Comics storyline) has to do with Barry Allen coming to accept that he can’t use his power to change whatever he wants in history, as there will always be consequences to playing god in such a way. The Knightmare sequence from Batman v Superman suggests any number of ways that Earth could fall into a new dark age – and that alternate world could be Barry Allen’s fault.
It would explain why Bruce Wayne has the Knightmare dream just before The Flash appears to him: If Barry screwed up the timeline and was trying to fix it by making contact with the “real” world again, then that energy disruption could have given Bruce flashes of the alternate reality Barry was crossing over from.
How Lois Lane would be the “key” to stopping Barry, or what Barry meant about “you were always right about him,” are harder pieces to fit into this theory – but perhaps they’ll come together better when we see the full movie.
The point is: Barry warning Batman against his own actions would be a head-trip connection that ties the DCEU films together into an impressive loop.
Other Possibilities
Fans of the Flashpoint comic book story may also see another possibilities with this Batman v Superman connection – such as Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman!
It’s clear from the first Justice League trailers that Aquaman and Batman start from a rocky place, and the Flashpoint story definitely makes Aquaman into a villain on a level that would make Barry come back with a warning to Bruce. Given that Aquaman movie will be released before Flashpoint, we could find Aquaman in a place where a slight change of fate sets him down a darker path.
Of course, the Superman theory still holds true (and is the most logical, in the context of BvS) – especially if Clark/Kal-El comes back from the dead with an evil twist to his character.
