Fans recently got their first look at the upcoming fifth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and now a new sneak peek clip shows the team being chased by a mysterious alien threat.

In the clip, which comes from the 2-part season premiere entitled “Orientation,” Coulson, Yo-Yo, Simmons, and Mack are chased down a hall by the mysterious creature first seen in the clip released during Marvel’s Inhumans on ABC. You can check out the sneak peek clip above.
As seen in the clip, things don’t look good for the team with the alien creature not only getting them cornered but with the team out of ammo as well. Mack resorts to throwing something at the creature, but the clip ends before giving away just how that plays out. The clip also ends before revealing anything about the creature, though that hasn’t stopped Marvel fans from speculating that the creature the team is fighting for survival against might be part of the Brood.
In comics, the Brood was created by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum and are an insect-like alien species who are also parasitic. They don’t have their own bodies, instead infecting others and taking over the host and transforming them into Brood. Though the creature in the clip isn’t an exact match to the vicious alien species seen in comics, this alien is pretty close and is clearly vicious.
Fortunately, not all of the aliens the team encounters in the upcoming season are vicious. The Kree, a race of blue-skinned aliens in comics, will also appear this season and as seen in a previous promo clip, they too appear to be hunting down prey of their own.
As for exactly why Coulson and the team are in space, what the alien is, and just what the Kree want, fans don’t have too long to wait. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is returning for its fifth season on December 1st.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns Friday, December 1st at 8/7c on ABC.
