The series, Gun Gale Online, was announced at the Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival. The series will spin out from Sword Art Online II and be written by Keiichi Sigsawa. Kouhaku Kuroboshi will oversee illustration.

As for its cast, fans should expect to hear some familiar voices return. The spin-off will not feature any characters from the main Sword Art Online series, but Llenn, Pitohui, and more will return. The pair will be voiced by Tomori Kusunoki and Yoko Hikasa respectively. M will be played by Kazuyuki Okitsu while Chinatsu Akasaki takes on Fukaziroh.

Fans have been asking for a Gun Gale Online spin-off for some time, and fans are excited to see A-1 Pictures taking up the task. The VRMMO game was introduced to fans in Sword Art Online II. The anime series brought in the new VR game after a series of players had their deaths related to the game. Kirito was brought in to investigate if the real-life murders were brought in by in-game deaths.

As for the game itself, the VRMMORPG was created by an American company called Zaskar. The game specializes in weaponry with guns being its go-to prize. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic Earth and follows players after they return to the planet after a mass exodus into space.

If you are not familiar with Sword Art Online, then you should know the series is one of Japan’s most popular animes. The franchise was created by Reki Kawahara and has an anime with two complete seasons under its belt. The series follows a boy named Kirito after he and thousands of gamers get trapped in a virtual reality video game known as Sword Art Online. The gamers must band together to defeat the game’s final level to escape, but Kirito and his guild learn there is more behind their prison than they were originally told.

Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale hits Blu-ray and DVD on December 19, 2017. It’s available to pre-order now.
