In less than a month, the anime world will be overwhelmed with deadly Titans once more. After a long hiatus, Attack on Titan is slated to debut its second season on the first of April. The action-packed series has millions of fans excited as it will mark the return of key heroes like Eren Yeager and Mikasa Ackerman. However, audiences should expect other characters to share in the show’s limelight this season. But, be warned! Spoilers for the series lie below!

Recently, ANIPLUS Asia had an chance to speak with the general director of Attack on Titan‘s new season. Tetsurou Araki had time to speak to the anime’s high points and ambitions as it gets ready for its debut. It was there Araki was asked about the franchise’s upcoming highlights, and the director said he was excited to bring new focal characters to the forefront of Attack on Titan.
“Character-wise, we have some that never really got the spotlight like Ymir or Krista, and we get a closer look into them now,” he said. “That’s going to be a big highlight, I think.”
“We discussed the dramatic points of those parts a lot with Isayama-san and managed to delve even deeper into them. We hope you look forward to it.”
Of course, manga fans will have been anticipating this character shift. When Attack on Titan enters its new season, the show is slated to first adapt the ‘Clash of the Titans’ arc. The seminal saga follows the Survey Corps as they deal with the fallout of Annie’s betrayal and an influx of Titans within Wall Rose.
It is during that manga arc fans discover Ymir has a secret of her own. The female is like Eren as she also has the ability to transform into a Titan, and Ymir faces off other Titans who surrounded the troops at Utgard Castle. As for Krista, the docile character reveals her name is a fake one; Her true name is actually Historia, and she is the last true royal left in the Reiss line.
Clearly, the two characters are going to have quiet a lot to do with the anime’s new season. You can expect to learn more about their secretive pasts as the anime gets underway next month.
