Blue Eye Samurai Confirms Final Season Release With New Season 2 Trailer

In 2023, Netflix created one of the most critically acclaimed animated series to ever arrive on the streaming service: Blue Eye Samurai. While a second season has been known to arrive on the platform for some time, many fans were wondering what the future would hold for Mizu and her quest for vengeance. In a good news/bad news reveal, Blue Eye Samurai has been confirmed for a third season, but season three is set to be its last. On top of this major confirmation, a new trailer has arrived for season two, and Netflix has let fans know when we can expect Mizu to end her story.

To start, Blue Eye Samurai’s second season is set for a release window of January 2027, bringing Mizu to London, England, to extend her quest for revenge. While a specific release date has yet to be revealed, Netflix did drop the first full trailer to give fans an idea of what is to come. While the season two news was big enough on its own, perhaps the bigger news was that season three was set to be the final season of Blue Eye Samurai. Luckily, viewers won’t have to wait nearly as long between these future seasons, as the grand finale is set to arrive in 2028. You can check out the brand-new trailer below.

Blue Eye Samurai Original Plans

Netflix

The news about Blue Eye Samurai’s third season being its last is a departure from what the animated show’s co-creators have been saying in recent years. In previous interviews, creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green hinted at the idea that they were aiming to tell Mizu’s story over four seasons and a movie. On top of these future projects, Green and Noizumi were also hopeful that the animated series would receive a spin-off focusing on the handless sidekick Ringo. It’s possible that this spin-off could still happen in the future, though for now, nothing has been confirmed by the creators or Netflix as of the writing of this article.

So what can we expect from the second season of Blue Eye Samurai? As a refresher, the last time we saw Mizu, she was making progress in terms of her bloody quest for revenge, but is now leaving Japan behind and venturing to the United Kingdom. While Mizu had defeated Abijah Fowler, the big bad of season one, there were still several targets that she needed to exact vengeance upon. If the first season is any indication, expect there to be plenty of sword-slinging violence and bloodshed that will be a part of season two. Ironically enough, if one review that dropped last year is any indication, viewers are in for a wild ride in 2027.
