Anime Expo 2017 is still underway, and the annual convention just dropped some massive news on fans. The director and lead actor of Fullmetal Alchemist's live-action movie attended the event to promote its release, and the pair confirmed a sequel is already in the works.
Security at Anime Expo has been tight this year for bigger panels, but fans attending the event's Fullmetal Alchemist panel were able to tweet out updates as they were revealed. Twitter is now being flooded with messages about the newly announced second-half of Fullmetal Alchemist's live-action premiere.
"So every character that we know and love in the Fullmetal Alchemist movie are coming along with a confirmed Part 2 to the movie," Twitter user @Nico_NVS reported. When asked to confirm if the cast was talking about a live-action sequel, the user said, "Another movie is confirmed for the Fullmetal Alchemist movie so basically Part 2 since the anime is so long."

So far, Warner Bros. Japan has kept quiet about any additional Fullmetal Alchemist installments, but this would not be the first time anime adaptations will be done in parts. Attack on Titan had its live-action debut in Japan back in August 2015. The film's first-half was released that fall before Attack on Titan had its latter part released in September 2015.
Fans are unsurprisingly excited to hear another Fullmetal Alchemist movie is already being planned. The first film will drop in December, and many worried the project would try to cram too much content into its condensed runtime. After all, Hiromu Arakawa's original manga consists of 27 volumes; There is just too much story in Fullmetal Alchemist to cover in single movie. A second-part will allow the much-anticipated adaptation room to breathe, so fans can only hope star Ryosuke Yamada is ready to play Edward Elric for just a bit longer.
You can read Viz Media's synopsis for Fullmetal Alchemist below:
In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and his leg, and his brother Alphonse became nothing but a soul in a suit of armor. Equipped with mechanical "auto-mail" limbs, Edward becomes a state alchemist, seeking the one thing that can restore his and his brother's bodies...the legendary Philosopher's Stone.
If you are not familiar with Fullmetal Alchemist, then you have plenty of time to watch the anime before its live-action film arrives. The series follows brothers Edward and Alphonse after their mother tragically passes. They attempt to use alchemy to resurrect her, but the attempt takes Edward's arm and leg - and it takes Alphonse's entire body. Determined to get their bodies restored, Edward and Alphonse try to become State Alchemists so they can find the location of a powerful item known as the Philosopher's Stone. But their journey ultimately leads them into a seedy world of government corruption and mass genocide.
This year, fans of the shonen series will be able to see more of the Elric Brothers than they have for some time. In December, Warner Bros. Japan will release the first live-action adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist.
Fullmetal Alchemist will debut in Japan on December 1.
