Right now, Fairy Tail fans seem to be on a bit of an edge. While the franchise has made a comeback as of late with the film Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry, fans of the series have also gotten sad news as of late. Creator Hiro Mashima has confirmed the Fairy Tail manga will be coming to an end soon, leaving fans with just ten more chapters before the series wraps. For anime lovers, they have also started to wonder if an eighth season of Fairy Tailis ever going to be announced, but it looks like that question hasn't been ruled out just yet.

At least, not according to one of Fairy Tail's directors.

Recently, Anime Now had a chance to speak with Tatsuma Minamikawa about his work on Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry. The film is the director's first work with the franchise, but the man has heard rumblings behind-the-scenes about more Fairy Tail anime.

When Minamikawa was asked if the series would get an eighth season following the spinoff Fairy Tail Zero, here's what he had to say:

"At the moment, I personally have not heard anything. Maybe the higher ups are talking about the possibility. At any rate, there isn't not a possibility that something might be coming."

While Minamikawa's answer isn't a confirmation by any means, it does tell fans that A-1 Pictures is still thinking about the franchise. The last season of Fairy Tail to air was back between 2014-2015. The seventh season contained three story arcs: "Grand Magic Game," "Eclipse Celestial Spirits," and "Tartaros." The manga has moved beyond those arcs already, and some of that new content is covered in Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry.

Given the success of Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry abroad, the franchise has gained some much-needed attention. Focus has been pinned back on Natsu and the Fairy Tail guild, and the comeback may be enough to make A-1 Pictures sign off on an eighth season. For now, fans can only wait for the animation studio to make an official statement on the anime's future. But, for now, the series seems to have a future brighter than Natsu's Fire Dragon Slayer magic.

If you are not familiar with Fairy Tail, then it is about time you familiarized yourself with the anime. The series follows a guild of young, powerful wizards who call Fairy Tail family. Set in a fictional Earth, a boy named Natsu teams up with an unlikely friend Lucy Heartfilia as the latter dreams of becoming a powerful wizard. To date, there are more than 250 episodes of the acclaimed series, and fans can expect more to come in the new year.
