In the image at right, a pair of The Wolverine action figures seem to answer a question that’s been hanging around since the film’s first trailer was released: does the film reinvent Silver Samurai as a robot? When the Wolverine CinemaCon trailer was released two weeks ago, fans got their first good look at the character widely assumed to be the Silver Samurai. In the trailer, there is a side view of the character locked in battle with Wolverine and in that shot, Silver Samurai towers over Wolverine in giant robotic fashion. In fact, Silver Samurai even appears to have rivets on his leg armor, leading many to speculate that Silver Samurai might actually be portrayed as a giant robot in The Wolverine.Assuming this version of the action figure is at least somewhat movie-accurate, it appears as though the figure we saw in the trailers might not be Silver Samurai at all, or may be some kind of specialized armor he uses for the occasion. The rivets aren’t here, and while it’s difficult to convey scale in a 3.75″ action figure without increasing the price, there’s nothing here to indicate that this character is substantially larger than Logan. The towering figure in the trailer didn’t have any exposed facial features, its mask covering the whole face.Back in February, ComicBook.com brought you a first look at this action figure, confirming that it’s part of the movie line, so if it isn’t screen-accurate, it’s an odd choice for inclusion in the toy line–although, as we all know, the action figure line often includes multiple variants of the central hero and villain in an effort to sell a variety of toys, so it’s not what you’d call a predictable indicator of the plot.
