Paul stated in a tweet from 2012 that playing the character Eddie Dean was a “HUGE dream” of his. In 2014, he told AICN that he had “a ton of meetings” about fulfilling that dream. Now Blastr is reporting that that dream has come true.

Well, at least partly. Blastr claims that sources inside the production informed them that Paul is onboard, but couldn’t confirm if he is playing Eddie Dean. Dean doesn’t appear in Stephen King’s novels until the second book in the series, The Drawing of the Three, creating an interesting wrinkle. Director Nikolaj Arcel previously hinted that the film would being “in media res,” and that much of it would take place in the modern day, so perhaps the first film will draw from later on in the series.
Warner Bros. recently announced that pre-production on The Dark Tower was underway. Idris Elba will play Roland, the Gunslinger, while Matthew McConaughey will play Flagg, the Man in Black.
Production on The Dark Tower is set to begin in South Africa in late April. The film is eyeing a January 2017 release.
