On Sunday night, Kevin Smith’s new AMC show, Geeking Out, made its debut. Helping him christen the inaugural episode, his friend Matt Damon (The Martian) made an appearance, reading superhero lines and promoting the eagerly-awaited new installment of the Bourne franchise, Jason Bourne.

Getting to interview Damon was a thrill for Smith; though, the geek icon/filmmaker would also like to interview a mutual friend of theirs who happens to be the current live-action Batman, Ben Affleck (Justice League). However, he concedes that it could be a tall order now that Affleck is in-demand.

“I know this is going to sound embarrassing, but Ben Affleck, at this point,” Smith told members of the press (via cinemablend) of his dream interviewee. “We could have put that together really easily a couple of years ago. Not so much now.”

Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg (Jaws, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial) is another celebrity Smith dreams of interviewing on Geeking Out. “I think I’m ready to talk to Steven Spielberg,” Smith offered. “I’ve been in this business for 22 years. I’ve always been like… the man’s a genius. He reinvented cinema for those of us who are a certain age. And I’m watching someone who is [Grunberg’s] childhood friend [in J.J. Abrams] take over the mantle for Steven Spielberg. He’s always been an amazing storyteller. … I just love storytelling, in general, and he’s a true master.”

Hosted by Kevin Smith and Greg Grunberg (Heroes, Lost, Alias, Star Wars: Episode VII โ€“ The Force Awakens and graphic novel Dream Jumper), the 30-minute show takes a timely look at pop culture through a fanboy lens and features talk, clips, celebrity interviews and out-of-the-studio segments.

A new episode of Geeking Out will air Sunday, August 14 at 11/10c on AMC.
