The Vampire Diaries is entering it’s eighth and final season, and it wouldn’t be a fitting exit if it didn’t involve Tyler Lockwood.
Worry not, as The CW hit show will be enlisting the talents of Michael Trevino once again for the final season. EW has confirmed that Trevino will return in the third episode of the season, and will once again face off against Damon (Ian Somerhalder) in a rematch from their last encounter. That last encounter didn’t turn out so well for Tyler, and Damon has managed to only get worse since their last meeting, but that isn’t going to stop Tyler from at least trying to talk some sense into him.

Lockwood officially left the show at the end of season 6, but he did return for a guest appearance last season.
When the show’s conclusion was announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Somerhalder recalled the moment he had been cast in the fan-favorite series and expressed his gratitude to all who helped him along the way.
“The sun, the moon and stars aligned for me one day in March when I got the official call that I had been cast in this very special role as Damon Salvatore,” said Somerhalder. “I’m so very grateful to those who fought for me to have this opportunity (you know who you are), for those that have worked so hard to make this show happen, and to those that have loyally watched it, making it part of their lives. This show has enriched my life greater than anything I’ve done in my career and it will live in my heart. We are a family and I will miss you. Thank you again to this amazing cast and crew, Kevin, Julie, Warner Bros., The CW and the most loyal fan base the world has ever seen. Wow, what a ride.”
The Vampire Diaries returns to The CW on October 21st.
