While no video has surfaced yet, Oscar Isaac made an appearance and performance at London’s “Letters Live” event, where letters are read aloud. Naturally, he read a letter about Star Wars, written by the original Obi-Wan Kenobi, Sir Alec Guinness. Benedict Cumberbatch read a letter from Mark Twain to Walt Whitman at the event, as well as Tom Hiddelston and Sir. Ian McKellen, amongst others.
Guinness’s letter shows a sense of poetry to the man’s way of speaking; rather than saying “spring is here,” he says, “The sun has shone all over Easter.” The celebrated actor had some… not great things to say about filming Star Wars.

“Can’t say I’m enjoying the film, โ new rubbish dialogue reaches me every other day on wadges of pink paper โ and none of it makes my character clear or even bearable,” Guinness wrote to his friend Anne Kauffman.
He also couldn’t remember Harrison Ford’s name, when writing about the way he and Mark Hamill made him feel old. He mentioned, not by name, working with Kenny Baker (R2-D2) in the same sentence.
“I must off to studio and work with a dwarf (very sweet, โ and he has to wash in a bidet) and your fellow countrymen Mark Hamill and Tennyson (that can’t be right) Ford โ Ellison (? โ No!) โ well, a rangy, languid young man who is probably intelligent and amusing. But Oh, God, God, they make me feel ninety โ and treat me as if I was 106,” said Guinness. It must have been hilarious hearing Isaac read it.

Oscar Isaac will play Poe Dameron again in Star Wars: Episode VIII, filming now for a December 15, 2017 release.
