According to THR, “Del Toro has fallen out of negotiations with Fox to star in The Predator, the reboot of the alien action movie series that Shane Black is directing for 20th Century Fox, sources say.” Without del Toro’s star power the project may be in a bit of trouble.

However, Fox does have a plan to hopefully replace the leading character with actor Boyd Holbrook of Narcos fame. Holbrook starred as U.S. DEA Agent Steve Murphy in both seasons of Netflix’s Narcos, the story of the infamous Colombian drug kingpin Pablo Escobar.

Holbrook is also set to be the villain in 20th Century Fox’s last Wolverine movie, Logan.

Apparently, there were problems with getting Benicio del Toro on board in the first place, due to scheduling reasons. In fact, production was even pushed back to February 2017 to accomodate del Toro’s other films.

Fox also plans to beef up the supporting cast, whoever they end up being. Maybe that James Franco casting rumor has some truth to it. 50 Cent, otherwise known as rapper turned actor Curtis Jackson also hinted he might be in The Predator.

We don’t have many details on the project just yet, as a working title was just revealed to be Ollie. Shane Black is keeping his Predator sequel/prequel/reboot rather mysterious.

Black did reveal that The Predator will not take audiences back to the ’80s per the original film, but will take place in the current day.

We’ll keep you updated on any news concerning The Predator. As of now, we expect to see the film realease sometime in 2018.
