Yamatai was designed by Bruno Cathala and Marc Paquien and immediately makes an impression thanks to the stunning artwork from Jeremie Fleury. The game has you working for Queen Himiko, who has tasked you with making your version of the capital city one that surpasses all others. You’ll utilize boats and resources to build your city as quickly and efficiently as you can while also making sure your city stands out amongst the other competitors.
The official description for the game is listed below, and if you’re curious to see how the game plays you can head here to find the official rules. You can hit the gallery for several images from the game as well.
Queen Himiko has tasked every builder in the kingdom with a prestigious mission: build the capital of Yamataรฏ and make it the jewel of the archipelago.
Your task: surpass your competitors and build the most prestigious city of them all, using resources from the fleets that travel through the kingdom.
Prepare your strategy, recruit specialists, and do whatever is necessary to become the best builder and be rewarded by Queen Himiko for your work.
Yamataรฏ is for 2 to 4 players, ages 13 and up. A game lasts from 40 to 80 minutes. The box includes 1 lavishly illustrated game board, 4 player mats with meeples, 80 wooden boats carrying resources (bamboo, wood; stone, clay, gold), 10 Fleet Tiles, 28 Building Tiles (21 Standard Buildings, and 7 Prestige Buildings represented with wooden figures), 7 Mountain Tiles, 34 Culture Tokens, 8 Sacred Ground tokens, 73 Coins, 24 Prestige Point Tokens and 18 Specialist Tiles.
Yamatai is expected to ship in Europe this March and the US in May for $60.
