The DC vs. Marvel rivalry is a curious thing, as in it seems to only exist between specific types of fans from either camp, who (for some reason) can’t seem to enjoy occupying the middle ground like so many other fans do. The rivalry certainly doesn’t seem to extend to the creative side of things, as DC and Marvel movie directors, writers, and stars all seem to routinely cross paths and enjoy pleasant interactions, if not friendships.

Even if they’re not close, creative types in both camps seem to maintain a professional respect for one another – at times even outright enjoying one another’s films. Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson is the latest Marvel director showing love to the “competition,” in an expression of excitement for what’s to come.

Talking with Screen Rant, Derrickson said that he’s excited to see the next phase of the DC Extended Universe films – especially one in particular: “You know, all I can say is, I didn’t read as many DC comics as Marvel comics growing up but I did read DC comics and โ€“ 100 percent honest answer, honest, truthful answer โ€“ the DC comic I read the most was Aquaman. I loved Aquaman. I read that comic pretty regularly as a kid. And they’ve got James Wan โ€“ who I think is one of the very best commercial directors in the world, right now โ€“ behind that. I’m so excited about that movie.

In addition to the project that captures his childhood wonder (helmed by a colleague he respects), there is more from the DCEU he wants to see: “I have a lot of hope for Wonder Woman. I really like her introduction in Batman V Superman and they’ve got a great character on their hands. My hope is that character will catch fire and have a strong presence. I root for those movies, ya know? I root for all movies, but I especially root for good comic book movies. It’s the best, most interesting genre going right now.”

See there, fans: someone who understands the richness of being immersed in all comic book movies, rather than worrying about which camp is doing it best. If the director of the most successful Marvel solo character debut can have that big of a sentiment, any fan can.
