Wonderful Concept Art Of Wonder Woman And The Amazons

Now that Wonder Woman has been released into the wild, conceptual artist Kelton Cram (Power Rangers, Deadpool) is sharing concept art he created for Patty Jenkins’s film, which includes costume designs of the DC superheroine and her fellow Amazons.

Since Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman costume that was first designed by Michael Wilkinson and introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was very well-received, Wonder Woman Costume Designer, Lindy Hemming, chose not to make any significant changes to it. Wonder Woman‘s cuirass, girdle, split skirt, gauntlets, greaves, headband, and bicep band remained relatively unaltered.

However, Hemming did make some improvements to the costume. She enhanced its red, blue and gold colors, adjusted the cut and weight so that Gadot was more comfortable performing action sequences, and, because much of filming took place in the middle of winter in England, a cozy faux fur lining was added to keep its star as warm as possible.

Hemming also designed the beautiful black lamb’s wool and mohair cape that Diana wears on her journey. It (somewhat) helps conceal her skin-bearing armor while she walks through the steets of London with Steve Trevor and as they head to the front in search of Ares.

Below, you can see Cram’s concept art of Wonder Woman‘s costume and cape. “Here are some of the designs I worked on for Wonder Woman! A couple of the images were collaborations of mine and other artists work, namely Constantine Sekeris and Keith Christianson, and Jp Targete,” Cram explained on his Facebook page. “I started working with Michael Wilkinson (Costume Designer) on Batman VS Superman where we originally came up with Wonder Woman, then later went onto WW, and eventually Justice League. I was primarily responsible for the amazonian warriors and the suits worn by her kin.”

When designing the Amazons’ armor, Hemming wanted it to be strong, feminine, and awe-inspiring. And because Jenkins envisioned the inhabitants of Themyscira to be very practical, she suggested that a subtle approach with the armor’s decorative elements.

“We wanted them to be believably from an ancient world and to look beautiful, but also free and fit and strong, not too trussed-up or overdesigned,” Hemming shared in the film’s production notes. “These are women whose lives are lovely and simple and they do not want for anything. I wanted to make them look relaxed and at one with their environment.”

The film is produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder and Richard Suckle, with Rebecca Roven, Stephen Jones, Wesley Coller and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers. Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with RatPac-Dune Entertainment, an Atlas Entertainment/Cruel and Unusual production, Wonder Woman.

The film will be released on June 2, 2017.
