Gotham EP Teases Killer Croc, Solomon Grundy And Mad Hatter's Season 3 Debuts

The third season of Gotham on Fox will introduce even more members of the Gotham's rogues gallery to the Batman prequel, including the zombified behemoth Solomon Grundy and the vicious Killer Croc. Both are characters with a superhuman flavor to them, which makes introducing them to the relatively grounded Gotham a delicate procedure.

Executive Producer John Stevens spoke a bit about the process, though he was hesitant to say too much of about Grundy. "It's difficult to do that without giving too much away but the idea of one is reincarnation, which is one where we obviously already crossed that hurdle," Stevens tells IGN. "And the idea that someone would want to create reincarnation? Who out there would want to be interested in reincarnation?" Stevens also squashed any theories that Grundy would actually be a character killed off in past seasons who was brought back from the dead. "When Solomon Grundy comes on, he will be a character we have not yet met."

While Grundy is expected to appear later in the season, fans can expect to see Killer Croc pretty early one. "The Killer Croc thing we'll see right at the beginning of the series. We'll see like a proto version of that," said Stevens. He also revealed that Croc has already been cast, adding that "he's not somebody famous right now," but declined to divulge the actor's identity.

Another villain coming to Gotham's third season is the Mad Hatter. Mad Hatter had a role in the Batman Arkham video game series, but Stevens says the Hatter on Gotham will be something else. "I feel like the character's an amalgam as much anything. There's a little bit of the reality from the Brubaker books but also from the New 52 and the Snyder books. There's some of that, too. From the Batman Mad series in terms of the emotional drive that he has. Benedict [Samuel] is definitely taller than most versions of Jervis but he plays it with a level of naturalistic insanity that I think, he really fills out that pantheon really, really well. But, no, there's no influence from the games."

Gotham returns to Fox on Sept. 19.
