A little bad word of mouth can't seem to slow the roll of Suicide Squad, which is looking to easily overtake Guardians of the Galaxy as the record-holder for the biggest opening weekend ever in August.

Fandango has reported record-breaking sales for the supervillain team-up film, and their online competitor MovieTickets.com has released a short statement reinforcing that news.

MovieTickets.com reports that Suicide Squad is trending #1 and reports that advance ticket sales for the film outpace the 2014 release of Guardians of the Galaxy by 40% making this weekend's release the highest August opening pre-seller in the company's history.

While those numbers are not intended as an actual predictor of the weekend box office for the film, they do roughly line up with the projected $140 million for Squad's opening frame. Although as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice learned earlier this year, those projected numbers are only as good as your CinemaScore. When word of mouth on Zack Snyder's Justice League prequel started to turn sour during opening weekend, its Sunday numbers suffered, shrinking its overall opening weekend box office.

Guardians opened with $94 million, though, which means Suicide Squad would have to have a pretty spectacular fall from grace to go from the currently-projected weekend to the #2 all-time spot in August.

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren't picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it's every man for himself?

Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2016.
