In the world of comic books, there are very few characters who die and stay that way. The medium is rife with resurrections, and live-action adaptations of Marvel and DC Comics keep up the tradition on screen. That is why many fans have been so insistent they’ll see Laurel Lance return to Arrow after a shocking Season 4, and now, executive producer Wendy Mericle has revealed whether fans are right or not.

Speaking with TV Guide, Mericle was asked how audiences will see Laurel Lance – who’s played by Katie Cassidy – in Arrow outside of flashbacks. The producer said, “I can tell you that we’re really excited about having her back. You will see in the episodes where she appears โ€“ Episode 510 definitely, our midseason premiere. Keep your eyes out for that.”

“We’re so excited about getting to work with her again and her willingness to come back. It’s one of the fun parts of the show. People can leave and get killed and you can still find new and crazy ways for them to come back. I can definitely tell you that there’s a way we’re going to bring her back and she’s going to be alive and well. And Flashpoint might have a little bit to do with that.”

Fans are already freaking out about the news of Laurel being “alive and well” as you can imagine. Comic book readers were stunned to see the heroine die last season. Earlier this July, Mericle told fans at San Diego Comic Con that Cassidy will return to the DCCW-verse.

She said, “We will definitely see [Katie Cassidy] in 501, and we have made a deal with her across Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow, so Katie Cassidy is definitely not gone from this universe.”

Since the announcement, fans have been wondering how Laurel might stage a comeback. ComicBook.com’s Kofi Outlaw has speculated the return could be done through a flashback, dream, alternate timeline exposure, or even metahuman shapeshifter.

Of course, there’s always the possibility that Laurel will actually be resurrected somehow through the upcoming ‘Flashpoint’ storyline, but actor Stephen Amell has stressed there is “no chance” Laurel will come back from the dead. During an interview with Larry King, Amell confirmed he knew what Laurel’s last words were and that she would not come back from the dead.

Cassidy spoke about her sizable return to The CW’s superhero line-up and said, “I just had this gut feeling. You know, it’s television and in this world, especially, anthing can happen. And I think that’s a positive thing, if you think about it. Because maybe, you know, bring them back. I don’t know. So, yeah, it was definitely tough, but I appreciate the last four and a half years that they wrote for me. I had such a great arc. As a character and an actor, that is such an amazing character to play and journey to go on.”

“And coming up, you will see me in the premiere of Arrow, Season 5,” she continued. “Pretty exciting. And I will also beโ€”they announced at Comic Con, which I’m safe to say โ€” across all three shows: Flash, Legends, and Arrow, for this next year. So, I’m excited about that.”
