Five Things We Learned From The New Justice League Featurette

When Zack Snyder tweets from the set of Justice League, the internet tends to light up, and today was no different. Celebrating the wrap of filming in the UK studios of Warner Bros., the behind-the-scenes look at what they accomplished there didn’t reveal much at first glance; but when you look at the video repeatedly and frame by frame like ComicBook.com does, there is a ton to take in.

While the movie is still over a year away, and the DC Films universe has Wonder Woman on the way first, the featurette had enough in it to drive the conversation until the next big announcement or trailer release. We break it all down for you here, from tonal shifts to character confirmations.

Lots of Team Action

If you were worried about the whole film being Batman flying around the world doing the recruitment gig, don’t be. There are more shots of the team together than there are of them solo, whether it’s the entire crew on an elevator, going up the stairs to (presumably) the roof of the GCPD, or standing at the ready in front of a massive green screen thatย seems like it might be representing the Superman memorial (more on that particular character in a bit). We want aย Justice League film to have an abundance of the team working together to defeat foes they individually can’t, and if this teaser is any indication, we’re going to get it.

They’re Having Fun On Set

Wait… didn’t these guys hear the naysayers? DC movies aren’t allowed to be fun! This might be the biggest takeaway from this movie, that this whole cast and crew are having a blast on set. Whether it’s Ezra Miller dancing around as The Flash, Jason Momoa dropping Aquaman’s trident and grabbing Wonder Woman’s sword to charge into battle, or even the usually stoic Ben Affleck tossing Batman’s cowl around with a smile on his face, it’s just nice to see them all so happy. Hopefully some of that will translate to the finished product, as well.

Gal Gadot and Ray Fisher got RIPPED

Everyone loves the workout videos and pictures people like Henry Cavill and Jason Momoaย post on instagram and other social media – but how about these two less-sung heroes? Ray Fisher, despite shooting nearly the entire film in a motion capture suit, looks positivelyย jacked, with some time spent in the featurette just dedicated to him working out. Meanwhile, Gal Gadot shows off some wondrous muscles of her own, catching a large… something. Whatever, just look at her muscles and tremble in fear.

Looks Like a Brighter Day

One of the primary criticisms of the DC Films universe so far has been the dour setting of nearly every moment in them. It doesn’t seem like a new day ever dawns in Gotham City, Metropolis, Midway – you name it, and it’s usually shrouded in Darkness.

While there’s a clear pall cast over some of the scenes in this featurette, there does seem to be some actual sunlight shining through, as well, indicating that DC Films and their crew are taking these criticisms to heart. Superman told us his S stood for hope, now it’s time for them to show us. Speaking of…

Yes, Superman is In JL

Yup, there he is, casually hanging out on set with Zack Snyder and others, in his full red and blue costume: Henry Cavill as Superman. He’s been technically unconfrimed forย Justice League thanks to his status at the end ofย Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where his fight with Doomsday went a lot like it did in the comics. Now, though, Superman is standing tall – and in his main costume, not any altered one (like the black costume speculated about). It’s clear he’s not with the team forย most of the movie, but seeing Superman’s return should be a great moment to cap off the film.
