The Scarecrow is set to make a return appearance on Gotham – and he just might look more terrifying than ever.

A new promo for Gotham‘s fourth season gave fans a new look at the iconic DC foe. The Scarecrow exterior appears to be different from what was seen in Gotham‘s first season, and his eyes and body emit a rather terrifying fire.
It’s unclear if this particular Scarecrow is actually Jonathan Crane (Charlie Tahan) himself, as the suit he was seen wearing in Gotham‘s San Diego Comic-Con trailer looks pretty different. It could very likely be one of Crane’s hallucinations, which he started developing after overdosing on his father’s anti-fear serum in his Gotham debut.
Either way, this new look at the DC Comics foe certainly looks terrifying – which will help contribute to the ‘horror movie’ feel of the character’s return.
“We’re really going to fashion, especially Episode 2, almost a horror movie episode where we really get to see Scarecrow.” executive producer John Stephens revealed. “I think he’s purely terrifying. Imagine, rather than the other versions of Scarecrow out there โ because there are a lot of different versions โ what if you just really tell Scarecrow as a horror movie? Because he could be scary as hell.”
Gotham will return for its fourth season on Thursday, September 21st, at 8pm EST.
