Armie Hammer is an actor who has become increasingly synonymous with the role of Green Lantern, despite never actually playing Green Lantern. For months there have been scattered, unverified rumors that Hammer would join the DC Extended Universe as Hal Jordan and his name has constantly been batted around when fans image their ideal cinematic Justice League.

Hammer decide to lean into the rumors and social media buzz, trolling fans with social media comments implying he may or may not have something to hide regarding the role.
Speaking to Collider, Hammer admits that it was all fun and games, but now he’s backing off for fear of a social media backlash.
“Man, jeezโฆ It was fun for a while and now I’m convinced that everyone’s gonna turn on me so I’m like ‘Oh shit, slowly backing away,’” Hammer joked.

Despite Hammer’s name reportedly popping up on a leaked Green Lantern actor shortlist, which also included former Green Lanter star Ryan Reynolds, Hammer says he’s no official talks with Warner Bros. about playing Hal Jordan or any other Green Lantern.
“I have nothing to confirm nor deny,” Hammer said. “The only talk of me being Green Lantern that I have heard in my life has only come from social media.”
It sounds like the buzz around Armie Hammer playing Green Lantern is nothing but speculation and wishful thinking…at least for now. Green Lantern Corps isn’t scheduled to debut until 2020. Who knows what could happen between now and then?
