With casting underway for the role of Superman in The CW’s Supergirl series, the outcry for former Superman actor and Smallville star Tom Welling to at least be considered for the part has been quite vocal. The character will make his debut in the season two premiere.

Now artist Boss Logic has given us a glimpse at how he might appear if given the role. Supergirl often combines a sleeker look with a more traditional feel, so this might be a bit too futuristic for the show’s current style. Still, I like it overall, and wouldn’t be opposed to it if this was the main Superman suit used in the show. It’s a thought many share, and any reason to bring back Smallville fans into CW’s new DC universe would be a welcome one. Welling isn’t the only former Superman that CW might consider, though, as Superman Returns star Brandon Routh is currently starring in Legends of Tomorrow as The Atom. You really couldn’t lose either way, but they might not want Routh to play two different characters in the same universe, in case they all crossover at some point.
While they might not be able to actually link the Smallville universe and current CW universe, it would be a nice nod to fans of the ten season running show. We’ll just have to wait and see, but most likely we will hear something in the coming weeks as San Diego Comic Con is right around the corner.
