Steppenwolf may be the vanguard of Apokolips in the invasion of Earth, but DC Comics fans clearly can’t wait to see Jack Kirby’s cosmic villain Darkseid, Steppenwolf’s uncle and the ruler of Apokolips, take to the big screen.

One artist is giving those fans what they want. Digital artist George Evangelista created artwork depicted Justice League‘s Steppenwolf standing alongside Darkseid himself.

The artwork has gone viral after being picked up by Reddit, where fans can’t say enough positive thing’s about Evangelista’s depiction of Darkseid.

“Damn, this is freaking bad ass! This design for Darkseid would work really well onscreen,” comments OwnTheKnight on the DC Cinematic subreddit.

“Please let this be Darkseid’s design, I don’t need the the New 52 design with the red, yellow and blue all clashing together. Just dark blue and dark grey like this and I’m all set,” comments Mister_Batfleck.

Fans can find prints by Evangelista for sale at his INPRINT shop.

Steppenwolf hasn’t appeared much in the marketing for Justice League as of yet, possibly as a result of the villain – played by Game of Thrones‘ Ciaran Hinds – requiring heavy digital effects. Fans have attempted to fill the void by creating their own posters featuring the general of Apokolips.

Steppenwolf was first hinted at in a deleted scene from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that was reinstated in the film’s Ultimate Edition. The scene involved Lex Luthor exploring a Kryptonian ship left behind after Zod’s attack in Man of Steel and discovering a three-dimensional representation of Steppenwolf and the Mother Boxes.

There has been some confusion about Steppenwolf’s relationship to Darkseid in the DC Extended Universe, with some sources claiming that Steppenwolf remains Darkseid’s uncle and others claiming that relationship has been reversed.

Justice League tickets are now on sale.
