Wentworth Miller’s thief-turned-hero died at the end of the show’s first season only to come back again as a bad guy plucked from earlier in the timeline by the Legion of Doom in season 2 and we already know that Leonard Snart/Captain Cold will be back again in the upcoming season 3. Now, thanks to executive producer Phil Klemmer, we know a little bit more about what to expect from Cold this go around.

Though he didn’t explain exactly how Captain Cold will return, Klemmer spoke with DC Legends TV recently and teased that Snart’s return won’t be good for Mick Rory/Heatwave.

“It will be about as polar opposite as the Snart that he’s played on our show. We’ve got a cool pitch to justify that version of him, which I don’t want to give away. But it’s going to be really traumatic for Mick Rory, because he has deified this version of his dead partner in his head, and in a way, Snart’s return is his greatest wish come true, but the fact that he doesn’t get the version that he’s held in the back of his mind is deeply unsettling. Rory’s made a lot of progress as well in the meantime, but he’s certainly not ready to call himself a hero,” Klemmer said.”

Fans have previously seen Snart as a ruthless villain, a reluctant hero, and as a man willing to sacrifice himself to save his friends so Klemmer’s comment that season 3’s iteration will be a “polar opposite” is intriguing. Where exactly can they go with a man who has been both a good and bad guy? We’ll find out when Legends of Tomorrow returns Tuesday, October 10.

Once reunited, the Legends will challenge the Time Bureau’s authority over the timeline and insist that however messy their methods may be, some problems are beyond the Bureau’s capabilities. Some problems can only be fixed by Legends.
