Marc Guggenheim, showrunner for The CW's Arrow and DC's Legends of Tomorrow, has revealed a first look at the logo for the Justice Society of America on his Twitter page.
It makes sense that they'd be trotting this piece of art around the set right now; Legends of Tomorrow is currently filming the second episode of its second season, titled "The Justice Society of America." In the Season One finale, Rex Tyler -- the hero known to comic book fans as Hourman -- showed up and introduced himself to the crew of the Waverider as a member of the group.

While the emblem calls back to a Golden Age image featuring an eagle atop an American flag-themed shield, the logo text around it is reminiscent not of the Golden Age but the Bronze Age; in the 1970s, the Justice Society had a logo that looked quite a bit like that.
A stylized version of the eagle logo was used in the late 2000s Justice Society of America series.
The Justice Society of America first appeared in 1940, making it the first superhero team in comic books. Their role in the DC Universe has been in flux for decades, ever since Green Lantern, The Atom, and The Flash were retooled in the late '50s. In 1961's The Flash #123, Barry Allen discovered Earth-2, and it was revealed that all of the classic adventures of the Justice Society and their contemporaries had happened on another Earth otherwise nearly identical to our own. When the orrery of worlds in the DC multiverse was combined into one universe in the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths continuity, the JSA weren't alternate Earth counterparts for the mainstream heroes, but instead the World War II-era superheroes from which later generations drew their inspiration. It's that version of the team that seems likely to pop up on the time-travel drama of Legends.
Already, Citizen Steel has been cast along with Vixen. Other JSA members recently confirmed to be appearing in the upcoming season include Obsidian, Star-Girl, and Dr. Mid-Nite.
That team, along with the crew of the Waverider, will face opposition from the Legion of Doom -- a supervillain team composed of The Reverse-Flash, Malcolm Merlyn, Damien Darhk, and Captain Cold.
DC's Legends of Tomorrow will debut its second season on Thursday, October 13, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
