This November, Americans will have to decide from a field of Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Gary Johnson, and Dr. Jill Stein as to who is best suited to be the next President of the United States. Since none of the four candidates looks like the next Abraham Lincoln or Teddy Roosevelt, voters haven’t been all that excited about casting their vote on Election Day.

Today, during the Gotham panel at New York Comic Con, one potential voter suggested Penguin should have more ambitious goals than becoming the next mayor of Gotham. “Oswald for President!” shouted a person from the crowd, after Robin Lord Taylor was introduced by the panel’s moderator.

“At this point… Penguin looks pretty freaking good for that office,” Taylor responded to the boisterous fan. “The Gotham writers may be writing a better reality than we are faced with.”

Once that was out of the way, the moderator turned his attention to Penguin’s mayoral campaign, asking Taylor: “How does Penguin present himself in the public arena?”

“If anyone does some deep cuts, you will see that Penguin gets a little makeover,” Taylor said. “He tries to present himself as he thinks a candidate should look and there is a certain omage to a certain candidate out there and it is entirely intentional. Our story is like any comic book and it is designed to look like the world we live in. Comics are written with the social climate in mind and our show is reflecting that. But, seriously, when Gotham starts to look like a documentary it is somewhat scary.”

The moderator then followed-up with: “Has this story been in the works or is this just reflective of the time?”

“We were doing a panel and someone asked, who is the biggest villain in Gotham City and I said Donald Trump… but this was like a year ago before all of this,” Taylor shared. “And so from there one of the writers said that they were somewhat inspired by that and that going forward with what Penguin went through so he has to make a move to legitimize himself in Season 3 and what better way to run for mayor.”
