Russell Tovey, best known for his role on Quantico, will play Ray Terrill, also known as the superhero The Ray, in the forthcoming Freedom Fighters: The Ray animated series on CW Seed.

A trailer for The Ray’s animated series debuted during Comic-Con and showed the character and other Freedom Fighters battling evil reflections of Supergirl, Green Arrow, and The Flash.
The decision to use Earth-X could prove controversial, as the world is part of DC’s multiverse where Nazis won World War II, and continue to control the world decades later. While the Freedom Fighters are part of a never-ending resistance movement to Nazi power, most mainstream superheroes are conscripted by world governments to maintain the status quo.
You can check out the official description of The Ray below, via TVLine:
“Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers.
With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.”
The character will make his live-action debut in the four-part Arrowverse crossover “Crisis on Earth-X,” which will air on November 27th and 28th on The CW.
