Shazam! director David F. Sandberg responded to critics on Twitter, telling detractors to hold off on criticisms until they have "more info" on the upcoming DCEU installment.

"They are going with the #new52 cast, which means the #new52 origin, where Billy is literally the worst kid the wizard has ever met," wrote a Twitter user of Billy Batson (Asher Angel), a teen endowed with the power to transform into super-sized and super-powered adult Shazam (Zachary Levi).

"Better steer clear of this movie till the #DCEU gets a reboot."

Sandberg responded to the user directly, writing, "Not to stop you from having an opinion about something that doesn't exist yet, it's the internet after all, but as I designate a movie the obligatory Best/Worst Ever!! I find it helpful sometimes to have more info than a few character names."

"Sometimes I'll even wait for a trailer of some sort if I really want to go crazy," read a subsequent tweet.

Replying to a fan who suggested studios have more transparency surrounding their anticipated productions, Sandberg wrote, "If it was up to me I'd share a ton of behind the scenes stuff as it's happening since I'm all about that."

"Concept art, characters, sets, etc. I doubt it would stifle negative discussion though," Sandberg added. "More details only means more to argue about."

The filmmaker is active on social media, sharing unrevealing behind-the-scenes looks at Shazam! on Instagram and Twitter, where Sandberg maintains an ever-growing Coca Cola can collection in honor of the film's pre-production.

Levi and Angel lead a cast that includes The Walking Dead's Cooper Andrews, Annabelle: Creation's Grace Fulton, Fresh Off the Boat's Ian Chen, The Middle's Jovan Armand and IT's Jack Dylan Grazer.

Shazam! opens April 5, 2019.
