In just three more weeks, Supergirl will be back on the air and all those tantalizing teases set up in the first half of the season will begin to come to fruition.

There are a lot of things hanging out there, waiting to be answered, and a lot of things we already know — like the returns of Livewire, Metallo, and The Dominators — so coming up with a list of five “predictions” that are both most likely true and not already confirmed is a little tricky.

It’s worth the trouble, though, especially since it’s as much fun for us as it is for the readers to speculate as to what exactly will happen as the show unfolds.

So check out our predictions in the pages that follow, and check in down below if you think we missed anything!

Supergirl airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. The series returns with new episodes on January 23.

LOVE IS IN THE AIR

While James and Winn are busy with the Guardian project, it looks like Supergirl and Mon-El will continue to drift together as the season progresses.

Clearly, though, something is going on with Mon-El, and he’s hiding something. Will the two of them commit to one another before his secret is blown and the whole paradigm shifts?

A recent interview with producers didn’t give a definitive answer on that one, except to say that mysteries will start to unfold as the season progresses.

SUITING UP

Speaking of Mon-El, who wants to bet that we’ll see him in his full Valor get-up sooner than later?

Don’t expect him to be a co-headlining superhero; he’s more likely to pop up a few times a season, like J’Onn has done since it was revealed that Hank Henshaw is in fact the Martian Manhunter. Still, getting him into those familiar duds could prove useful when and if they decide it’s time to shunt him off to the Legion.

THE LUTHORS ARE COMING

Don’t expect her arrest at the end of the midseason finale to be the end for Lex and Lena’s mother.

The Cadmus Project will likely fall into the hands of somebody else — and whether they’re better or worse is anybody’s guess — but even without the organization behind her, it’s difficult to imagine Lillian Luthor will just go quietly.

As for the kids? We’d love to see Lena actually be what she appears to be at face value, an antithesis to Lex and Lillian and a great fit for the hope and light that Supergirl brings to National City…

…but we’re just not sure you can ever trust a Luthor. Will we eventually find out that even getting her own mother arrested was just part of a long con to gain Supergirl’s trust?

INVASIONS!

The Dominators, fresh off their Earth-1 defeat at the hands of the ArrowThe Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow heroes (along with an assist from Supergirl), will be headed to Earth-38’s National City to give Kara a headache.

We already know they’re bad news here, too; during her trip to Earth-1, Kara revealed that Dominators had terrorized Krypton in the past. But they’re also not the only aliens on the way here to make life harder for our heroes.

Up until now, most of the aliens we’ve seen have either been benign or, if evil, escapees from Fort Rozz, the Kryptonian supermax prison that got dragged out of the Phantom Zone around the same time Supergirl did.

At the moment, though, we have at least one group of mysterious aliens making their way toward Earth with a  mean-on for Mon-El.

SUPERMAN RETURNS

Don’t be surprised if we see a little more of Superman this season.

Besides the fact that everybody loved Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman, there’s the fact that we’ve already seen that Dean Cain’s Jeremiah Danvers is still around, and still himself.

Superman said that he cares deeply about Danvers, and will do anything he can to help them bring him home safely — something that Supergirl didn’t get a chance to do the last time he appeared onscreen.
