According to TVLine, Supergirl is looking for an actress in her 40s who will play a “mysterious and sexually compelling Kryptonian” on the series. The character is already being likened to another noteworthy female character from pop culture – Melisandre from Game of Thrones.
It’s unclear exactly when that character would enter the fold, as Supergirl is already several episodes into filming its third season. It’s also unclear if the character in question will appear in the present day events of the series or through flashbacks, a conundrum also applying to Alura (Erica Durance), Kara Zor-El’s birth mother.
And even then, it’s unknown exactly which character this role would be based on. While the show has included appearances from many prominent Kryptonians, it has yet to feature characters such as Faora and Ursa. Other possibilities include Aethyr, a telekinetic Kryptonian who appeared on Smallville, or a genderbent version of a more prominent male Kryptonian character.
While much of this casting still remains a mystery, fans already know quite a few new characters who will be joining the series. In addition to Psy, who will be played by Jane the Virgin‘s Yael Grobglas, the show will be adding Morgan Edge, as well as the father of J’onn J’onnz/Martian Manhunter.
Supergirl premieres Monday, October 9th, at 8/7c, on The CW.
