With Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins officially coming back for the sequel and a planned release date in place, the script is already underway.

It is easy to wonder when fans might start to learn specifics about the story or characters involved, especially given the popularity of the first one, and the fact that the door was seemingly closed on making another that picks up right where it left off. The script is currently being written, according to DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns — which means that specific details are probably quite a ways away, but keeping an eagle eye on Johns’s Twitter feed is probably a good idea.
“I’m working right now on the Wonder Woman 2 script. I just started,” Johns told Yahoo! Movies the week of Comic Con International in San Diego last month.
The sequel has been a foregone conclusion since before Comic Con, with Wonder Woman topping the summer blockbuster season, earning over $400 million in North America and around the same amount outside the domestic market for a stunning $795 million to date.
Gal Gadot’s Diana/Wonder Woman will next appear in November’s Justice League, with an expected appearance in Flashpoint coming up right around the same time as a planned Justice League sequel.
Wonder Woman 2 will bring back Gadot and director Jenkins, and is expected to be released in 2019.
