Though we'll still have to wait a bit longer for Bandai Namco's Ace Combat 7 to arrive (it's not set to arrive until next year), the team is hard at work on making sure it'll be filled with stuff that fans can appreciate.

Speaking with Total Gaming, producer Kazutoki Kono noted that the game will have plenty for new gamers to enjoy, but will also be loaded with Easter eggs that long-time fans of the series will appreciate.

"To reiterate what I said before," he noted. "The game can be enjoyed by first time Ace Combat players. But for those who have played Ace Combat before, there would definitely be Easter eggs that will help them enjoy the game on a whole different level."

The series has been making the rounds for well over 20 years now, with the initial entry being a hit in both arcades and on the Sony Playstation, where it was released under the name Air Combat. Since then, we've seen a number of sequels, ranging from Ace Combat 2 on the PlayStation all the way through Ace Combat: Assault Horizon for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS. So there's obviously a lot of legacy to be covered here, and when it comes to Easter eggs, the sky's the limit.

Now the question is how they'll be implemented. Could we be looking at classic jet designs from previous games from the series? Perhaps special flight gear that will be suited to other games? There are a lot of possibilities here.

And we are talking about Bandai Namco here. The company has been known to throw in classic references to its game library in other titles, such as Xevious, Bosconian and other old-school titles featured on cars in the Ridge Racer series. So, yeah, the team could totally throw in lots of references to keep fans entertained.

We'll see what's thrown in when the game arrives for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2018. There's no release date yet, but we'll likely know when it's coming over the next few months. Hopefully we're looking at spring.
