Bayonetta has created quite a legacy in just a short amount of time. The original game for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 was a bold masterstroke when it came to action titles, and the recent PC remaster showed that it continued to be a big hit. And then there was the Wii U-exclusive sequel, which became one of the most sought-after titles for the platform.
So…where’s the third? Well, while it doesn’t officially exist, there’s a good chance that Platinum Games, the developer behind the series, may be hard at work on it.

According to Game Revolution, a tweet by the studio’s founder, famed game director Hideki Kamiya, has hinted that the game could be in existence.
Per this Twitter account, a fan asked Kamiya “Is there an actual name for the world of chaos, like inferno and paradise? Like Gaia, or something like…” To which Kamiya had one simple response: “Wait till Bayo3.”
Although this is hardly official confirmation that the game is in the works – the studio probably would’ve announced it otherwise – it is certainly something to chew on. Though Bayonetta 2 wasn’t that hot a seller as a Wii U exclusive, it still garnered a great deal of attention for the studio, and prompted Nintendo to work with the team on future projects, like Star Fox Zero. So there’s some notoriety there.
On top of that, Platinum Games could have some future plans in place when it comes to ramping up Bayonetta 3. We could very well see a PC port of Bayonetta 2 somewhere down the road, though Nintendo did publish the original game, so that could be up in the air. But maybe a Nintendo Switch compilation wouldn’t be out of the question either, with the third game likely being announced for the platform as soon as next year. After all, Nintendo doesn’t have too many games on the docket for the coming year, save for new Kirby and Yoshi titles. (This Xmas, however, tells a different story.)
We’ll have to see what comes of this rumor, but, hell yes, we want it just as badly as you do. Who could dare deny Bayonetta?!
