It’s been years since we’ve seen a new Castlevania game, since Konami has pretty much given up on its classic franchises in favor of pachinko/betting machines and the occasional video game release, like PES 2018 and the forthcoming Metal Gear Survive. So, it’s up to the fans to give us some new games – and one just came up with a doozy as far as Castlevania is concerned.

A gamer by the name of Batandy has put together a first-person Castlevania game called Simon’s Destiny, built upon a Doom engine. That’s right, first-person – the first time we’ve seen a change in the franchise since the fighting game Castlevania: Judgment came out for the Wii several years back.
Initially reported by Kotaku, the game looks to be a fresh take on the series, while keeping its classic whip and secondary weapon abilities completely intact. It also has the old-school pixelated look that brings out its Doom style, even if that means whipping some poor fool’s head off.
“Castlevania : Simon’s Destiny is a standalone non-profit GZDOOM based fan game born as a love letter to this legendary franchise,” Batandy explained on the game’s download site.
“This mod aims to reinvent the very first NES title of the franchise with a nostalgic yet brand new first person gameplay. All the levels from the classic NES era game have been reimagined like never before, experience the tale of Simon’s fight against Dracula and his army of the night!”
You can download the mod here and check out the trailer above to see the game in action. It certainly has us in the mood to whip it good!
