Announced today through a new video uploaded by Ubisoft, For honor will soon kick of its third season called “Grudge and Glory,” and with it comes two additional heroes, some new maps, tournaments, and even a new loot rarity.
The two new heroes that are joining the fray are the Gladiator and the Highlander, fighting for the Knights and the Vikings, respectively. Both of these will be available first for season pass owners and can be purchased by everyone else not long after they’re released. But while the new fighters are the core addition that players will undoubtedly look forward to, there have also been several changes made to certain maps as well as plans made for more competitive play.

Overall changes and addition with Season III look to improve the game and pull back in some of the playerbase that might’ve dropped off previously. Season III kicks off on Aug. 15, so read on to see what they have planned for the next season and decide if it’s enough to bring you back into the For Honor battles.
The Highlander
The Highlander is one of the new fighters that’s being added toย For Honor,ย an imposing warrior who fights for the Vikings faction. Bringing a massive claymore with him to mow down enemies, the Highlanders weapon is the heaviest in the game, so you can expect him to be a slow, powerful member of the Viking roster.
Below is a description of the new fighter that was provided with the reveal:
“Highlanderย โ Stoic and guarded, Highlanders are patient heroes capable of switching between two different fighting forms. Their defensive form allows for counter-attacking and trading blows, while their offensive form empowers them to unleash their deadliest attacks at the expense of being able to block. Wielding the heaviest and longest sword in the game, the Highlander’s massive claymore gives them a deadly combination of strength and range.”
The Gladiator
Hailing from a much different region than the Highlander, the Gladiator is a new addition to the Knights’ fighters that refuses to be weighedย down by heavy armor, forgoing such protection in favor of some lethal agility.
No stranger to killing, the Gladiator looks seems like he’ll be a force to be reckonedย with when he’s released:ย
“Gladiator โ Wielding a trident and shield, the Gladiator has made a living off of killing for sport, they now bring their ruthlessness and skill to war. Fighters by trade, they are brash and boastful; equipped with little armor, they can punch their opponents to create separation to set up attacks and stuns. Their larger stamina meter and reduced cool down times make them extremely agile and dangerous opponents.”
New Maps
Expanding the areas that these two new heroes will be able to be used on, there are also two additional maps being added with the upcoming season.
The first is called Sentinel, a massive castle that even features an environmental tool in the form of a deadly ballista that can be used to shoot opponents.
For the Northern faction, a new waterfront map called Viking Village is being added as well that seems to bring environmental hazards as well in the form of some imposing spiked barrels that look to make quick work of anyone caught in their downhill path.
Legendary Loot
As time goes on since the game was released, those players who have stuck with the game through thick and thin have undoubtedly racked up quite a bit of loot over their brutal battles. To keep up the incentive of acquiring new gear to further improve your fighters, For Honor is also adding a new tier of rarity for loot called “Legendary.”
In addition to the loot changes, you’ll also be able to take your character prowess to a new level with an increased reputation level. Beginning with the update, the new reputation level for each hero will cap at 40.
Tournaments And Duel Changes
The competitive factor ofย For Honor is all too real, and the Duels are the perfect way to prove your dominance in a one-on-one battle where only skill will prevail. There’s also the chance that you’ll just get thrown off the map or impaled on spikes, but with the addition of tournaments and changes to Duel maps, the fights will be even more intense.
Beginning along with the update, Duel tournaments will be organized in-game, something that the devs say is an addition that feels quite natural to the game. A ranking system will ship with the tournaments to allow you to wear your earned rank with pride, though it’s unclear if there will be any additional rewards given out for tiers.
The Duel maps also have been changed slightly to focus the matches more on skill and less on environmental hazards. Some of the traps have been taken out of these maps to prevent a fluke drop to your death, even though positioning and being able to take advantage of opponents’ poor positioning are definitely viable options when it comes to winning the fights.
