If you've grown to love some of the newer games from developer From Software that include Dark Souls and later Souls games as well as the Armored Core franchise, there will soon be a chance to revisit one of the company's older projects, the PlayStation 2 game Eternal Ring.

Sony announced on Friday that Eternal Ring would be digitally added to the PlayStation 4 during the week of May 23. Originally released in 2000 — 9 years prior to the release of Demon's Souls, From Software's first installation into the Souls series — Eternal Ring was a launch title for the PlayStation 2.

The first-person title puts players in control of an adventurer named who travels to an island that's filled with mythical adversaries and magical potential in the form of powerful rings, one of which is known as the Eternal Ring.

These rings play a core part in the gameplay of Eternal Ring, but that's something that shouldn't be too hard to acclimate to if players have spent any amount of time carefully selecting their rings in any of the Souls games. By finding different rings scattered across the island that fulfill different purposes such as aiding in combat or otherwise boosting one's stats, obstacles and enemies can be overcome by utilizing unique combinations of rings. Another layer to this ring crafting system comes in the form of magical gems that are likewise found as treasures on the island. The gems come in five different elements that include Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Light, and Darkness, and using different gems in different rings will create even more unique results.

While the graphics are certainly dated, especially when they're experienced from the first-person perspective, the game is still worth trying out to see how well it's aged.

In addition to Eternal Ring being added to the PlayStation 4, there are several other games that are planned to join the growing library of games the console offers. Star Ocean: Till the End of Time is a second PlayStation 2 game from the list that will be added to the console, a game that is the third main installation in the Star Ocean franchise and was published in 2003 by Square Enix.

The full list of games being added to the PlayStation 4 can be found in the official PlayStation Blog.
