Ed Boon is a master spinster, but he’s not a liar. When he says we can expect a huge surprise out of the next batch of Injustice 2 DLC characters, we believe him. In a recent interview with DC All Access at San Diego Comic Con, Boon stated that the next three characters (Fighter Pack 2) would contain a big surprise that leaves fans saying “wow.”

That leaves us asking, “What’s one character that no one is expecting?” The latest issue of the Injustice 2 comic series may have given us the answer, and it’s something that we’ve speculated before. We’re going to unravel this mystery right here, right now. Follow along and tell us that this doesn’t make sense. First, we start with this now-infamous DLC reveal image, featuring our soon-to-be-revealed silhouettes.

There are only two “definite” bets in this image; two definite shapes. One very clearly looks like Raiden (you can see the hat), and one very clearly looks like Black Manta. NetherRealm Studios has been known to intentionally mislead us with character silhouettes, so we think that one of these two “definite” shapes is going to turn out to be our big surprise.

There are only a few possibilities…

So the theory is that someone is masquerading as either Black Manta or Raiden. We have a pretty good feeling that Black Manta is actually going to make it to the roster since Ed Boon has called him out by name (like he did for Red Hood and Starfire before they were revealed), but in truth, no one is safe.

Inustice 2 has been favoring some lesser-known heroes and villains in its roster, so there’s always a chance that a hidden DC treasure like Metamorpho could show up. Pretty much anyone stretchy or shape-shifting could work, so heroes like Elongated Man, Offspring, or Plastic Man could work out.

All of these heroes are fairly obscure, but there’s one name here that stands out apart from the others, and that’s Plastic Man. This is where we get to our clenching argument. If you need evidence that Plastic Man may jump out and surprise everyone in the next Injustice 2 DLC trailer, just take a look at the latest issue of the Injustice 2 comic.

Plastic Man Featured in Issue #16

The reason we think we may be welcoming Plastic Man to the Injustice 2 roster soon is right here. He and his son show up in a big way in the latest issue of the Injustice 2 comic series. You can find the issue right here and read it for yourself (or get caught up if you’ve been missing this!), but the gist is this: Plastic Man is now alive and well in the Injustice 2 universe.

In the first series of Injustice comics, Plastic Man plays a pretty major role resisting Superman’s regime, and has to infiltrate his twisted Justice League in order to plea for the release of his son who was being held as a captive. He succeeds in this endeavor, and encourages all of the inmates who were incarcerated with his son to keep rebelling against Superman’s regime before going into hiding.

So while Plastic Man might not be front and center in the conversation over which DC superhero needs to come to the Injustice 2 roster next, the fact is that Plastic Man does play a pretty major part in the overall Injustice canon and would be a perfect fit here. Every fighting game needs a Dhalsim, right?!
