It’s hard to believe, but we’re just a few weeks away from the release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A. This much-anticipated game has divided fans with its new battle system, but for many, having a new main series (ish) Pokemon game is still something to celebrate. Naturally, Pokemon Go is getting in on the fun with a tie-in event. Much as it has done for prior game releases and for anime like Pokemon Horizons, the mobile game is bringing us a little something to mark the release of Z-A. For the most part, the event isn’t impressing fans, but there’s one detail that will have many taking a break from Lumiose City to log into Pokemon Go.

Pokemon Go has officially announced its Pokemon Legends: Z-A Celebration Event. The event will begin on October 16th to coincide with the release of Z-A, and will run until October 20th at 8 PM local time. And for the most part, it’s a pretty simple and straightforward event that doesn’t have fans feeling too excited. After all, the event overlaps with a major release for the Pokemon franchise, so it makes sense Niantic isn’t pumping its best content out during the overlap. But for some players, it’s still worth making time for due to the ability to use a Chargmed TM to teach Pokemon their featured attacks.
Fans Hope More Events Will Follow Suit With Legends: Z-A Celebration Event in Pokemon Go

During the Z-A celebration event, more Mega Raids will be appearing on the Pokemon Go map. That makes sense, given the fact that Mega Evolution plays a key role in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The event will also have Timed Research that lets players encounter the game’s three starters, Chikorita, Totodile, or Tepig. Naturally, they’ll also have a Special Background, because Pokemon Go loves to throw those at us. There will also be new, free avatar items themed after the main character’s default outfit in Legends: Z-A.
In a fun twist, whichever Pokemon you choose during the Timed Research will also be more frequently attracted to Daily Adventure Incense. In other words, it’ll be easier to grind Candies and Shiny Hunt for that specific starter. That’s all pretty straightforward, however, and these Pokemon have been in Pokemon Go for a while. It’s another detail that has fans setting aside time to log in during the Legends: Z-A event.
As with many Pokemon Go events, there will be special featured Charged Attacks on offer. Players who evolve Bayleef, Croconaw, and Pignite during the event will get access to a special Charged Attack for each Pokemon. However, some trainers may not want to evolve a new one of these starters if they already have a powerful 3-star in their arsenal. That’s where the biggest perk of the Legends: Z-A tie-in event comes in.
During this event, you can also teach this featured attack using a Charged TM. That means that you don’t have to newly evolve your Bayleef into Meganium for it to learn Frenzy Plant. You just need to use a Charged TM on it during the Pokemon Go tie-in event for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. This isn’t the first time this option has been available for Charged Moves during events, but it’s still not a guarantee. And many trainers are hoping this feature will become a go-to any time a special Charged Attack is featured in future Pokemon Go events.
Overall, fans aren’t super impressed with this event. But it is a great opportunity to teach the Legends: Z-A starters a rare featured Charged Attack by using a TM. Compared to starting from scratch and having to evolve them during the event window, it’s a pretty big perk, and one we all hope continues in future events like this one. The Pokemon Legends: Z-A celebration event in Pokemon Go will run from October 16th to October 20th. So, if you want those special moves, make sure to pause your Lumiose City adventures long enough to use up a few Charged TMs.
