In advance of its release later this week, reviews for Silent Hill f have today gone live, and they seem to prove that Konami’s beloved horror franchise is truly back. Leading up to the arrival of the newest Silent Hill game, there had been some concern from fans about how it would ultimately turn out. These concerns were rooted less in how the game looked, and more in the fact that other recent Silent Hill titles such as Silent Hill: The Short Message, Silent Hill: Homecoming, and Silent Hill: Downpour had all been disappointing in one way or another. Luckily, the same doesn’t seem to be true for Silent Hill f, which only increases excitement for its upcoming launch.

At the time of this writing, there have been nearly 100 total reviews for Silent Hill f from various publications. These reviews have all largely been on the positive side, which has led to the game currently sitting at a strong 85/100 aggregate score on Metacritic. This score could obviously change over time as more reviews continue to trickle in, but the consensus at the moment seems to be that Silent Hill f charts a new course for the franchise while staying true to its history. Combat is the one element of the game that seems to be a bit more divisive, but its horror bonafides have been praised by numerous critics.
How Does Silent Hill f Stack Up to Other Silent Hill Games?

While an 85/100 aggregate score for Silent Hill f might not be enough to put it in the conversation for Game of the Year, it’s worth stressing that this is the best-reviewed Silent Hill game in over 20 years. Outside of last year’s remake of Silent Hill 2, which sat at a similar aggregate score of 86/100, Silent Hill f is the best wholly new entry in the series since 2003’s Silent Hill 3, which also sat at an 85/100 score. The only Silent Hill game to currently have a higher average review score than Silent Hill f is that of the original Silent Hill 2, which is widely considered one of the best horror experiences ever created.
In short, it really seems like Konami has a bright future for Silent Hill, which is great to see given the dire straits that the series has been in for the past 10 to 15 years. Outside of Silent Hill f, Konami also has a new remake of the original Silent Hill in the works with developer Bloober Team, which created the Silent Hill 2 remake, helming the project. Another wholly new game in the series, Silent Hill: Townfall, is also on the horizon, but details on this game are still a bit unknown. With Silent Hill f now finally slated to release in mere days, though, there’s a good chance we’ll start hearing more about Townfall in the weeks and months ahead.
Silent Hill f releases later this week on September 25th and will be playable on PS5 and PC platforms.
