Few video game locations are as beloved as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s iconic Kakariko Village. Sure, the Zelda series has produced much bigger, more intricate towns since, but none match the nostalgic hominess of Kakariko. The cuccos, the windmill, that hummable music – if it weren’t for the giant spider man and monsters at the bottom of the well, Kakariko village would the video game place I’d most like to live in.
Back in 2015 YouTuber CryZENx first started getting attention for remaking various sections of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with Unreal Engine 4, including Kakariko Village, The Temple of Time, Hyrule Field, and Gerudo Valley. These remakes were gorgeous, and gave us a peek at the kind of ultra-detailed visuals Nintendo will probably never give us in a real Zelda game (at least, not any time soon).

Well, CryZENx has continued to tinker with their Ocarina of Time Unreal Engine creations over the past year, improving the quality of his models, animation, lighting, and more. The most recent release is an updated recreation of Kakariko Village, which you can check out, above. Even better, a download link has been provided, so you can play around in this very pretty version of Kakariko Village to your heart’s content!
Will CryZENx ever embark on a full Ocarina of Time remake? That kind of seems to be what they’re leading up to. Unfortunately, Nintendo would probably shut it down just as quickly as it does most Zelda fan games. Come on, Nintendo, look the other way just this once! Or failing that, make your own Ocarina of Time Unreal Engine remake!
