Stephen Lang is still talking about playing Cable in Deadpool 2. It all started when he tweeted a photo of himself, making a huge muscle with the caption that read, "Let's lay some CABLE #DEADPOOL." Since then, the internet has turned into a whirlwind of "Stephen Lang for Cable" campaigns, some even designing some pretty impressive images of the silver fox as the hardened hero.

The man is a dead-ringer for Cable, whether he wants the part or not. His recent role in horror film Don't Breathe proved that he has the chops, too. In a recent interview discussing his role in Don't Breath, Mashable also asked what's up with the Deadpool 2 rumors:

"Oh sure, I was a fan of the first Deadpool and I'd be delighted to be a part of that sequel, but I haven't spoken to anyone about it. It kept cropping up on the internet that I should play Cable. The extent of what I did was, one day I was in the gym and I tweeted, "let's lay some Cable," and that became construed as my campaign for the part. Even now, if someone does fan art, I'll retweet it because I like keeping it alive. It's the same studio as Avatar, but I don't know if that makes it easier or more difficult logistically. Either way, no one has approached me, and I can't even say if I'm in the actual conversation. But they must be aware of it, because whoever makes those decisions must be aware of everything. Plus, I think I'd do a pretty bang-up job with the part. Having said that, understand that my obligation is to the largest, most successful film ever made, so Avatar takes precedence"

Based on his comments, it sounds like Lang is trying to play it cool here and "cable" must be some sort of gym term. Considering he did hashtag that initial tweet with Deadpool, it's unlikely that his intentions were really misconstrued. Either way, Tim Miller, Deadpool director, hasn't spoken to him about it yet, and he never may. Meanwhile it sounds like he's signed on for the Avatar sequels to reprise his role as Colonel Quaritch.

That's fine, but we still want to see you as Cable...
