It has been a busy week for Chris Evans. The star found himself supporting his beloved New England Patriots on Sunday when Super Bowl LI rolled in. Evans was quick to celebrate the team’s win, and the Hollywood actor has been over-the-moon about the occasion all week, or he was until today. On Twitter, the vocal star made his thoughts about the recent appointment of Attorney General Jeff Sessions known, and he wasn’t afraid to fight for his stance against others.
“If David Duke….DAVID!…DUKE!… thinks you’re right, then you are unequivocally wrong. The confirmation of @jeffsessions is beyond words,” Evans tweeted.

However, the actor’s tweet was then intercepted by David Duke himself. The former Ku Klux Klan leader then answered to Evan’s message. “Typical dumb actor – if everything I say is wrong, then when I say I oppose these Zionists wars, you must be for them, Captain America!?” Duke replied.
“@DrDavidDuke well if these nuggets of bigotry are some of your OTHER thoughts, then I stand by my original tweet. We can’t let hatred be the loudest voice,” Evans shot back before tweeting once more. “We can’t let hatred be the loudest voice.”
Of course, fans have likened Evan’s response and persistent political chatter to the role which made him a bonafide superstar. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor plays Steve Rogers, the scrawny kid from Brooklyn who volunteered to become Captain America circa World War II. Over the past months, political advocates on both right- and left-wing sides have used the Marvel icon to bolster their platforms, and the daughter of the hero’s creator has even commented on the Captain’s political leanings.
“Captain America has been around for a long time, so anytime there is any turmoil or unrest or disagreement, he pops up,” Melissa Groben told Heat Vision. “We all find whatever we need in a particular character, whatever that may be. So, I can’t say that the way anyone is using the character is wrong. If that’s what they see in the character, then that’s what works for them.”

However, the daughter of Joe Simon did caution fans from associating Evans’ stances with those held by Captain America.
“Mr. Evans is not representing his views as Captain America, he is representing his views as an individual,” said Groben. “He has been in many other roles and is a fantastic actor. He really did a great job as Captain America, but we have to separate fiction from reality. He is not speaking as Captain America. He is speaking as Chris Evans. And that’s the way it should be. His viewpoints are his own.”
