Thor: Ragnarok is about to make its U.S. debut, but fans are already clamoring for Taika Waititi to sign on for another film. The director’s distinct flair has helped the Thor sequel gain universal praise from critics, but it doesn’t look like Waititi is into doing a Thor 4. If anything, the New Zealander is down to do a Thor: Ragnarok 2.

Recently, the director sat down with Screen Rant to discuss his work within the MCU, and Waititi talked about his desire to do another film.
“Yeah, people ask me, Would you do another one,’ and for sure I’d do another one because it wouldn’t even feel like doing a fourth Thor film, it would just feel like doing the second Ragnarok film,” Waititi said.
“There’s been this reinvention in an exciting way โฆ So it’s exciting cuz it feels like, if Chris were to do this again it wouldn’t feel like ‘oh it’s the eighth time I’ve done Thor,’ no it will feel like the second or third time I’ve done this character. Same with Mark [Ruffalo].”
It’s no surprise to hear Waititi is partial to a Ragnarok sequel given the lackluster response Thor‘s previous films garnered. The hero had an OK debut, but things took a turn with Thor: The Dark World. Audiences signaled their disappointment with the film’s mixed tone, but Thor: Ragnarok seems to have addressed the issue. After all, critics and fans alike cannot stop raving about the sequel’s dynamic humor.
As for whether Marvel Studios would have the director again, the company’s head said he felt it was just a matter of time before Waititi returned to the MCU. Kevin Feige said there are no immediate plans to sign the director on for new movie, but the possibility is out there in the MCU’s next phase.
“Well, we’ll see,” Feige told Screen Rant. “I would love, love, love to work with Taika again and I have every confidence that we will. What we’re working on right now is the next six movies. The next six movies that will bring us to Untitled Avengers in May 2019, which carries off a lot of what you see in this movie. In some cases very directly, and continues to build and grow.”
