Loki's Allegiance in 'Avengers: Infinity War' Revealed

It looks like playing the hero just doesn't suit Loki.

During a question and answer session conducted remotely at Comic Con Experience 2017 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Loki will be an ally of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity (via omelete).

This follows up on a theory stemming from Thor: Ragnarok that was confirmed by the Avengers: Infinity War trailer. The theory was that Loki took the Tesseract from Odin's hall of treasures before placing Surtur's crown in the Eternal Flame and triggering Ragnarok. That theory was confirmed in the trailer, which shows Loki holding the Tesseract, which houses one of the Infinity Stones, and presumably handing it over to Thanos.

This will not be the first time that Loki has been an agent of Thanos. In Marvel's The Avengers, Thanos granted Loki the scepter that housed the Mind Stone and sent him to Earth. That was when Loki first captured the Tesseract. Loki was to use its power to summon the Chitauri horde to conquer the Earth, but his plan was foiled by the Avengers.

Thor brought the Tesseract back to Asgard, but the Scepter was left in SHIELD custody. Agents of Hydra smuggled the weapon out to Wolfgang von Strucker, who used its power experiment on humans. The only survivors of these experiments were Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, now with brand new superpowers. The Avengers retrieved the scepter, which inspired Stark to create Ultron, who then placed the stone in a synthetic body that Thor eventually awakened to become the Vision. The Mind Stone still rests on Visions' forehead.

The real question now is whether Loki has always been working for Thanos or if he is forced back into the Mad Titan's service under duress, perhaps in order to dissuade Thanos from doing further damage to the Asgardian migrant fleet.
