During the Sony panel Venom star Tom Hardy came out to greet fans and press under a giant Venom banner from the film. He assured everyone in attendance that he would do the character justice, but then everyone there was given a shirt that sports the official production logo from Venom on the front.

The logo features a Venom straight out of the comics, with that fearsome grin staring you right in the face. A large red V can be seen behind it, and the back of the shirt also features the film’s tagline “We Are Venom”.

Fans of the comic will recognize the familiar line, and all things considered, it seems like Sony is intent on delivering a true to form Venom that comic fans are familiar with.

You can view the shirt and logo in the gallery.

While the tone will be much darker than Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, it isn’t known exactly how dark they’ll go. For Venom artist Todd McFarlane, the darker and more brutal the better.

“What’s Venom gonna look like?” McFarlane told ComicBook.com. “It’s an R-rated movie, how ‘R’ are they going to go? To me, that’s the question. Are they going to go a ‘little bit R’? Venom’s a monster to me, and to me โ€” are they going to make him a monster or are they going to make him a man? Are they going to humanize him? That’s what we gotta find out.”

McFarlane is also pretty high on Tom Hardy in the role, and think she will do a fine job capturing what makes the anti-hero so popular.

“It’ll be interesting,” McFarlane said. “I’ve seen some movies of his where he can bring anger and a wide personality to it. To me, I think Tom Hardy’s going to be as good as whatever Venom looks like. We all know Tom’s going to act. He’s going to do a good job.”

Venom currently enjoys a 3.71 out of 5 on ComicBook.com’s anticipation rankings, which you can submit your vote for here.

Venom is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 5, 2018.
